Gang Of 10 Chases Man With Molotov Cocktails Before Knife Attack

Date:

A 24-year-old man was injured after being chased by a group of about 10 attackers who allegedly hurled Molotov cocktails before repeatedly slashing him with knives in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province.

The violent incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday along Phibul Songkhram Road near the Rama V Bridge intersection in Muang District. Police from Muang Nonthaburi Police Station were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a gang fight involving Molotov cocktails.

Investigators found the victim’s motorcycle abandoned by the roadside, along with burn marks, broken glass believed to be from an energy drink bottle and fragments of what appeared to be a homemade explosive device.

The victim, identified as Pongsakorn, sustained slash wounds to the right side of his neck and left shoulder. He managed to escape into a nearby convenience store, where he sought help before rescue personnel provided first aid and rushed him to Phra Nangklao Hospital. Police said he is now in stable condition.

A knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered outside the convenience store and seized as evidence.

According to Pongsakorn, the attackers arrived in a vehicle before throwing an explosive device at him. He fled into the convenience store, but the group allegedly chased him inside the premises and attacked him with knives.

His 16-year-old brother, who was travelling with him on the same motorcycle, said they were on their way to buy groceries when they encountered the group near Rama V Bridge. He claimed the attackers, believed to be from the Bang Sri Mueang area, pursued them with knives before assaulting his brother and stealing their motorcycle.

CCTV footage reviewed by police showed around 10 suspects arriving on six motorcycles at about 1.10am. The footage allegedly captured both groups stopping to exchange insults before the suspects threw Molotov cocktails and firecrackers at the victims, forcing them to run into the convenience store for safety.

Police are expected to interview the injured victim in hospital as investigations continue to identify and arrest those involved.
