Dental Nurse Banned After Mercedes Crash Leaves Two Motorcyclists Seriously Injured

Date:

A 22-year-old dental nurse has been banned from driving for a year after her Mercedes collided with a motorcycle, seriously injuring a young couple in Swanley, Kent.

Halle Bae Osborne-Holland admitted to two counts of causing serious injury by careless driving after pulling out of a petrol station directly into the path of an oncoming motorcycle in August last year.

Dashcam footage shown in court captured the moment Osborne-Holland drove out of the petrol station onto London Road without noticing the approaching Honda motorcycle ridden by Christopher Collins, 22, with Rebecca Good, 21, riding pillion.

The collision launched both riders into the air before they landed on the road, while debris from the crash was scattered across the carriageway.

Rebecca was thrown beneath a Volkswagen Golf after being ejected from the motorcycle. Members of the public lifted the vehicle to free her before she was airlifted to King’s College Hospital in London.

Christopher told the court he blacked out after the impact and regained consciousness lying on the road in severe pain before calling for help. He was taken to the same hospital by ambulance.

Rebecca suffered a fractured thigh bone and required splints on her leg. The injuries forced her to defer her university studies for a year.

Christopher sustained a serious haematoma in one of his legs and has since undergone three operations. His injuries also kept him away from work for several weeks.

Prosecutor Victoria Aked told the court the couple “could have died” as a result of the crash, adding that Osborne-Holland failed to take sufficient care before pulling out of the petrol station.

Defence lawyer Matthew Coxall argued that his client’s driving was careless rather than dangerous, while acknowledging she accepted she should have seen the approaching motorcycle.

At Medway Magistrates’ Court, Osborne-Holland was disqualified from driving for 12 months and handed a 12-month community order, requiring her to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.

She was also ordered to pay a £114 victim surcharge (approximately RM660) and £85 in court costs (approximately RM495). The combined financial penalty totals £199 (around RM1,155), based on current exchange rates.
