A Thai driver has lodged a police report after a man allegedly climbed onto the bonnet of his moving pickup truck, damaged the windscreen and remained on the vehicle during a road rage incident in Nonthaburi.
The 28-year-old driver, Pornchai Praphai, filed the report with Sai Noi Police Station on July 16, claiming the incident happened at about 3pm while he was travelling to Bang Bua Thong district for work.
Pornchai also submitted video footage of the incident to police, with the recording later spreading widely on Thai social media. The footage showed a man wearing dark blue shorts lying across the pickup truck’s windscreen while the vehicle was still moving.
The windscreen was seen badly damaged with a large hole, while Pornchai could be heard repeatedly asking the man to stop and explaining that he had already apologised over the earlier road dispute.
Speaking to Channel 7, Pornchai said the confrontation began after he changed into the left lane in front of another vehicle. He claimed there was enough distance between both vehicles and no collision occurred.
He said the other driver became angry, followed his pickup and later moved in front of his vehicle, forcing him to stop. Pornchai said he lowered his window and apologised in an attempt to settle the matter peacefully.
However, he claimed the man later got out of his vehicle, jumped onto the pickup truck and struck the windscreen.
Pornchai said he continued driving slowly, believing the man would eventually get off the vehicle. However, the man remained on the bonnet and accused him of attempting to hit him with the truck.
He said he repeatedly denied having any intention to harm the man and asked him to climb down from the vehicle.
According to Pornchai, he drove about one kilometre to a nearby petrol station before the man finally got off the pickup. He then left the area and went directly to Sai Noi Police Station to report the incident.
Police have yet to identify the suspect and are currently reviewing CCTV recordings from the area along with other evidence to assist investigations.
