A 64-year-old man has been charged in the Kuantan Sessions Court with raping and sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in April.
According to Utusan Malaysia, the senior citizen pleaded not guilty after the two charges were read before Judge Azman Mustapha.
The first charge accuses him of raping the child at a house in Kuantan in April. Under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, a conviction carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and whipping.
The second charge alleges that he sexually assaulted the victim by the side of a road in Kuantan during the same month. This charge falls under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act, which also carries a maximum 20-year prison term and whipping if convicted.
The judge denied bail for the time being but allowed the accused to apply for it after securing legal representation.
The case is scheduled for mention on October 15.
