A woman in China was left horrified after discovering multiple rotting dead chickens hidden throughout her newly purchased home, leading her to suspect the former owner deliberately planted them as an act of revenge over the sale price.
According to Chinese media reports, the incident occurred in Hefei, Anhui Province, where the woman, identified only by her surname Yang, had recently bought a second-hand property.
After collecting the keys earlier this month, Yang immediately noticed a strong foul smell filling the house. Believing it was caused by poor ventilation, she left the windows open for several days, but the stench only became worse.
She later noticed dark red liquid resembling blood seeping from gaps in the living room’s false ceiling, while flies began appearing throughout the property.
Suspecting something was hidden above the ceiling, Yang pried open one of the ceiling panels and was shocked to find rotting dead chickens stuffed inside.
She then carried out a thorough inspection of the house and discovered more decomposing chickens hidden inside the ceiling, light fittings, underneath a mattress and inside gaps between kitchen cabinets.
Yang reported the matter to the police, who attempted to contact the former homeowner several times by phone. However, the individual allegedly refused to answer the calls or open the door when officers visited the residence.
Police reportedly classified the matter as a civil dispute and advised Yang to gather evidence before pursuing legal action through the courts.
Yang said she purchased the property through a real estate agent on 11 May. Under the sale agreement, all household appliances were to remain in the property.
However, she claimed the former owner later felt the house had been sold for too little and removed all of the appliances without permission.
The appliances were only returned after Yang refused to complete the handover and the estate agent stepped in to mediate the dispute.
According to Yang, the former owner remained unhappy throughout the process and repeatedly complained about the sale price. She now suspects the dead chickens were deliberately hidden around the house as retaliation.
The incident remains under police investigation.
