A tragic incident occurred in Huntington, Indiana, where a newborn baby, just one week old, was fatally attacked by the family’s pet dog, a Husky-Pitbull mix. Authorities have taken the dog into custody for observation, while the infant’s parents remain in deep shock and grief nearly a week after the tragedy.
According to local police, the incident happened on the evening of September 4. Emergency responders found the baby severely injured and rushed him to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital, but he could not be saved. The newborn, Jason Anthony Weaver, was born on August 28 and suffered multiple blunt force injuries, which the coroner ruled as the cause of death, labeling the case an accident.
The baby’s parents told police that the dog had never shown aggressive behavior before, so they did not take special precautions to separate the pet from their newborn. Tragically, this led to the fatal attack.
In the baby’s obituary, the family shared that Jason loved the song “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” and, though his life was brief, he will always be deeply loved. Authorities are yet to decide whether the dog will be euthanized.
