A motorcyclist has come under fire on social media after he was caught on camera performing a dangerous wheelie while carrying a woman and a child through Alor Star City Square.
The 17-second video, which was shared on Threads, showed the rider lifting the motorcycle’s front wheel as he rode past two of the city’s well-known landmarks, Masjid Zahir and Balai Besar.
The clip quickly sparked outrage online, with many users pointing out that the child appeared to be riding without a helmet, raising serious concerns over the youngster’s safety.
The video was uploaded by Threads user @cerita.harini__, who sarcastically commented that the rider had taken the effort to hide the motorcycle’s registration plate but seemed far less concerned about protecting the child.
Many netizens flooded the comments section, urging the police and the Road Transport Department (RTD) to investigate the incident and take appropriate action against the rider.
“This is unbelievably reckless. The child wasn’t even wearing a helmet. I’m embarrassed to see someone from Alor Star behaving like this,” wrote user @naimbadek.
Another user, @rasydan_77, questioned what the rider was trying to prove, while @amirahusna90 called for the video to be forwarded to the police, the RTD and the Social Welfare Department for further action.
“Parents should know better. A child is a responsibility entrusted to them, not someone they can put in danger however they like,” commented user @real4ira.
The New Straits Times has contacted both the police and the Road Transport Department for comment on the incident.
