A two-year-old girl was killed after she was believed to have been run over by a lorry driven by her grandfather in Kampung Bukit Kuang, Kedah, on Thursday.
The incident occurred at about 10.20am, with the child suffering severe injuries to several parts of her body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said the victim’s 61-year-old grandfather was reversing the lorry in the compound of a house when the tragedy occurred.
“The driver was reversing the lorry without realising that his granddaughter was behind the vehicle, causing it to run over the child.
“The lorry, which is normally used to transport fertiliser, was not carrying any load at the time of the incident,” he told reporters at the Kedah Police Contingent Headquarters.
Adzli said the child sustained serious injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.
