DAP deputy secretary-general Hannah Yeoh has likened the cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) to the Titanic, claiming the alliance is destined to sink because it lacks the values of political loyalty and friendship.
Speaking during a campaign in Kuala Klawang, Jelebu, Hannah said the alliance may appear strong at the beginning, but it would eventually collapse after “hitting a massive iceberg” due to conflicting ambitions within its leadership.
She said both coalitions have leaders aspiring to become prime minister, which she claimed would eventually lead them to undermine one another for political survival.
“Last night I campaigned in Kuala Klawang, Jelebu to support my friend Datuk Ir Bakri Sawir, who is defending the Pakatan Harapan (PH) seat in Klawang, which he won in both the 2018 and 2023 elections.
“I also reminded those present not to be worried or overly excited by the cooperation between BN and PN. It will not last because it is overshadowed by betrayal and a lack of loyalty to the values of political friendship,” she said in a Facebook post on Friday.
Hannah claimed both BN and PN were more focused on elevating their own leaders rather than ensuring the success of their coalition partners.
She contrasted the alliance with Pakatan Harapan, saying the coalition had remained united in supporting Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim until he became Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister.
According to her, PH continues to uphold the principle of having a single leader steering the coalition, adding that securing victories for PH candidates symbolises the coalition’s commitment to political unity and friendship.
Her remarks come as political parties continue campaigning ahead of the Negeri Sembilan state election, with cooperation between BN and PN remaining a key issue in the campaign trail.
