A fire at Pasar Borong Selangor early Friday morning destroyed about 90 per cent of a shop selling electrical goods and kitchen equipment at Block B4, Pusat Bandar Putra Permai.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Assistant Director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the firefighting operation was fully completed at around 6.20am.
He said firefighters were still carrying out inspection and cooling works at about 7.50am to clear remaining hotspots at the affected shop lot.
“The operation will continue to ensure there are no remaining embers or possible sources that could cause the fire to reignite.
“We are also waiting for an excavator to arrive to clear the collapsed structure and confirm that no victims are trapped,” he said in a statement on Friday.
The firefighting operation involved 68 JBPM officers and personnel, assisted by 67 members of the Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Earlier reports stated that the fire had destroyed a premises selling metal goods at Pasar Borong Selangor in Seri Kembangan before spreading to several nearby shops.
However, the quick response from firefighters successfully prevented the flames from spreading to the main market building.
Ashrul said the operation involved five Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicles, a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT), two Aerial Ladder Platforms (ALP), an All Terrain Vehicle (BATV), three Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicles and seven water tanker lorries.
The cause of the fire and total losses are still under investigation.
