Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for closer security cooperation with Belarus and Uzbekistan during separate meetings with his counterparts on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Bishkek.
According to statements released by China’s Foreign Ministry on Friday, Wang met Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov and Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov on Thursday evening.
During his meeting with Ryzhenkov, Wang thanked Belarus for what he described as its unwavering support for China on issues concerning Beijing’s core interests.
He also urged both countries to deepen security cooperation and accelerate preparations to establish a joint development bank.
The two sides also signed a 2026–2027 consultation plan between their foreign ministries to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
In talks with Saidov, Wang called for greater collaboration on major industrial projects and reaffirmed China’s commitment to advancing the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project.
He also stressed the importance of making full use of the existing joint law enforcement and security cooperation mechanism between the two countries.
Wang further urged stronger unity and coordination through multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and the China-Central Asia mechanism.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is a 10-member Eurasian bloc comprising China, Russia, India, Pakistan, and several Central Asian nations, focusing on regional security, economic cooperation and political coordination.
