Police Clarify Man In Viral Video Had Health Problems And OKU Status

Date:

Police have denied misleading claims and speculation surrounding a viral video showing a man allegedly behaving irrationally at a petrol station along Jalan Payamas, Tangkak.

Tangkak District Police Chief Superintendent Roslan Mohd Talib said investigations found that the incident involved a man with a health condition and was not related to the allegations circulating on social media.

He said the video, which was uploaded on a social media account, showed a man wearing a cleaning contractor company uniform appearing distressed and allegedly attempting to harm himself.

“Checks found that the incident is believed to have taken place at a petrol station along Jalan Payamas, Tangkak, involving a man in his 30s who is believed to have health issues.

“The man’s family also lodged a police report at Tangkak Police Station on July 23 to deny inaccurate assumptions and speculation,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Roslan added that police discovered the man possessed an OKU (persons with disabilities) card and had an existing medical treatment record at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar.

He advised the public not to spread unverified information or make assumptions regarding the incident, especially when it involves an individual’s health condition.

“Should there be any incident involving public safety or security, members of the public may contact the Tangkak District Police Headquarters Operations Room at 06-978 5222,” he said.

Earlier, a 35-second video went viral showing a motorcyclist collapsing at a petrol station in Tangkak.

However, the man’s family later clarified that he was believed to have suffered a seizure after being late in taking his medication.

In a statement shared on social media, the family denied claims that the man was under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances, while urging the public not to make unfounded accusations.
