Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated that no individual is above the law, pointing to ongoing investigations and prosecutions involving high-profile figures as evidence of the government’s commitment to upholding justice.
Anwar said the Madani government remains focused on strengthening governance and fighting corruption, while stressing that investigations and prosecutions are carried out by the relevant authorities independently.
“I do not prosecute anyone. Investigations are conducted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police, while prosecution is handled by the Attorney General’s Chambers and the courts decide the outcome,” he said during the opening of National Training Week 2026 at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Permatang Pauh campus.
The Prime Minister also stressed his determination to prevent the misuse of public funds, saying past weaknesses in governance had created a major financial burden for the country.
He cited the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) as an example, saying the organisation was once among the world’s most successful plantation bodies before political interference and poor management contributed to significant losses.
Anwar said the government currently has to allocate almost RM1 billion annually to service Felda’s debts, adding that stronger governance is needed to prevent similar issues in the future.
Meanwhile, Anwar said he has no objections to making public the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji, but the process must be completed before its release.
He said the matter would be brought before the Cabinet on July 29 and expressed confidence that the Cabinet would agree to release the report.
Anwar explained that the report was previously withheld to allow Tabung Haji time to carry out reforms and rebuild public confidence, but the institution is now prepared for its findings to be made public.
He said the government’s aim is to establish an administration that is transparent, accountable and committed to improving the well-being of Malaysians.
