PM Anwar Slams Attack on Dang Wangi Police Chief: “Vile and Must Be Condemned”

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged authorities to immediately investigate and arrest those behind the attack that injured Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Suzilme Affendy Sulaiman, earlier today.

Condemning the act as vile and unacceptable, Anwar stressed that while the government respects the right to peaceful assembly—a principle consistently upheld through various gatherings in the past—such freedoms must come with responsibility, respect for law, and proper conduct.

“The assault on a public servant, namely the Dang Wangi Police Chief, by irresponsible parties is despicable and must be condemned. Peaceful assemblies should never be abused for narrow political agendas that disrupt public harmony. Violence fueled by incitement, hatred, and false information must not be allowed to take root in society,” he stated in a Facebook post.

Suzilme was reported injured while managing the situation during an evacuation operation at Kampung Sungai Baru, following a scuffle when residents forced their way into the restricted area. Witnesses said he suffered a bleeding facial wound.

The operation, led by court bailiffs with the support of multiple agencies, was carried out under a court order to demolish structures in the area.
