A Malaysian man was killed after he was allegedly stabbed during a group fight involving foreign nationals in Eumseong County, North Chungcheong Province, South Korea, early on Sunday morning.
According to Korea JoongAng Daily, police have arrested a Malaysian man in his 40s to assist in the investigation. He is suspected of murder and several other offences after allegedly stabbing the victim, who was in his 20s, with a knife.
The incident reportedly took place at around 3am along a road in Daeso-eup, Eumseong County.
Preliminary investigations found that the victim and the suspect were part of two separate groups that became involved in a large-scale altercation at the scene. Authorities believe around 10 people were involved in the fight before the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked the victim.
The victim was pronounced dead following the incident, while another individual sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police said the suspect fled to a nearby residence after the stabbing but was tracked down and arrested about an hour later.
Investigators are continuing to determine the cause of the confrontation and are recording statements from the suspect as well as several other individuals believed to have been involved in the incident.
