A 45-year-old man died after collapsing while taking part in a football tournament organised by a political party at a residential field in Bandar Ekar Rantau, Seremban, on Sunday.
Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yatim Osman said police received a report on the incident at about 11.35am.
Preliminary investigations found that the victim, who was playing as the goalkeeper, suddenly collapsed while a penalty kick was being taken during the match.
At the time of the incident, the victim’s wife was at the field cheering him on. Police confirmed that there were no elements of foul play or criminal activity involved.
The victim’s body was later taken to Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban for further procedures. Police also revealed that the man had a history of heart disease and had previously received treatment at the Heart Centre of Hospital Serdang.
Mohd Yatim urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information about the incident, reminding everyone to respect the privacy of the victim’s family during this difficult time.
