Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he has urged the United States to provide more anti-ballistic missile systems and interceptors to help Ukraine defend against continued Russian missile attacks.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday during his visit to Washington, Zelenskyy said he raised Ukraine’s defence needs in meetings with US President Donald Trump and a bipartisan group of US senators.
He said Ukraine has developed drones capable of intercepting and destroying Iranian- and Russian-made drones, but stressed that the country’s biggest challenge remains defending against ballistic missile strikes.
“The real problem is anti-ballistic systems and anti-ballistic missiles,” Zelenskyy said after meeting lawmakers at the US Capitol.
He added that he had outlined Ukraine’s most urgent military requirements during his discussions with US officials.
Ukraine has repeatedly appealed to its Western allies for more advanced air defence systems as Russia continues to launch missile and drone attacks targeting cities and critical infrastructure.
