Police: No Evidence Bullying Caused Student’s Attempt To Jump From School Building

Date:

Police have ruled out bullying as the cause of a Form Two student’s attempt to jump from the second floor of a secondary school in Terengganu on Tuesday.

Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin said preliminary investigations found that the 14-year-old girl had been diagnosed with schizophrenia in May, a condition that was known to both her parents and the school administration.

He said the student is currently receiving treatment and remains under close observation at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital.

According to Khairi, the girl last received treatment on July 14 and is scheduled to return for a follow-up appointment on Sept 15.

He added that the school had also referred the student for 11 counselling sessions with a guidance counsellor and held five consultation sessions with her parents to provide ongoing support.

Speaking at a press conference at the Terengganu Police Headquarters, Khairi said the school had implemented several measures to safeguard the student, including placing her in a ground-floor classroom, arranging for daily monitoring by guidance counsellors and asking her classmates to accompany her at all times.

He said police school liaison officers would continue monitoring the situation as a preventive measure.

Khairi also urged the public not to upload or share photographs, videos or other content related to the incident on social media, saying such actions violate the privacy and dignity of the student and her family.

He warned that individuals who circulate such content could face action under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Reiterating the findings of the investigation, Khairi said police had found no evidence linking the incident to bullying and urged the public to avoid making unfounded allegations.

He also called on all parties to respect the privacy of the student and her family to allow medical personnel to continue her treatment while police monitor the case.
