China has warned it will “resolutely retaliate” if the United States proceeds with an import ban on new Chinese-made robots and power inverters, vowing to safeguard its national interests.
In a statement on Thursday, China’s Ministry of Commerce urged Washington to immediately withdraw the proposed measures, accusing the US of unfairly targeting Chinese companies and products.
The ministry said the restrictions discriminate against Chinese firms and called on the US to stop what it described as its “erroneous actions.”
The response came after the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced new measures on Tuesday aimed at protecting the country’s artificial intelligence infrastructure from national security threats while supporting the reshoring of key industries expected to see rapid growth.
Beijing said the FCC had ignored China’s repeated objections and continued to tighten restrictions on Chinese technology.
The ministry also accused the US of broadly invoking national security concerns to justify the measures, describing the move as “market distortion and unilateral bullying” that disregards the interests of both Chinese and American industries.
China warned it would take firm action to defend its legitimate rights and interests should the restrictions move forward.
