Another motorcyclist travelling to the RXZ Members 8.0 gathering in Kuala Terengganu lost his life after his motorcycle crashed along the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1) early Friday morning.
The victim, identified as 44-year-old Mohd Fauzi Othman, was riding a Yamaha 125ZR when the accident occurred at Kilometre 184.9 of the expressway heading towards Kuantan at about 6.30am. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Maran district police chief Superintendent Wong Kim Wai said initial investigations found that the victim had been travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu to attend the RXZ Members 8.0 gathering.
According to him, the motorcycle is believed to have gone out of control upon reaching the location before skidding and throwing the rider onto the right lane of the highway.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash was likely caused by the rider’s failure to control the motorcycle. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, while the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation.
Wong said no witnesses have come forward so far and urged anyone with information about the crash to contact Maran District Police Headquarters Traffic Investigating Officer Inspector Nurhafizul Abd Halim at 010-5752075 or visit the nearest police station to assist with the investigation.
The latest tragedy adds to concerns over road safety as thousands of riders make their way to the annual RXZ Members gathering, with authorities continuing to remind participants to prioritise safe and responsible riding throughout their journey.
