The General Operations Force (GOF) Sarawak Brigade seized suspected untaxed cigarettes and beer worth an estimated RM92,000 during a raid at a shophouse in Bau on Thursday.
Bau district police chief Superintendent Mohd Haide A Rahman said the operation was conducted at about 10.15am under GOF Sarawak’s Op Taring Alpha 1 and 2.
He said the raid was carried out after the premises along Jalan Temenggong Salau was suspected of being involved in the sale of untaxed goods.
During the inspection, enforcement personnel seized 99 cartons of beer and 212 cartons of cigarettes believed to have been sold without proper tax documentation.
An 18-year-old male worker at the premises was also arrested to assist with investigations. Initial checks found that the individual had only been working at the shop for around two months.
Mohd Haide said further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the activity and identify those involved.
The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act.
