Two teenagers were killed after a BMW X5 allegedly lost control before crashing into the back of a motorcycle at Kilometer 150 of Jalan Kuantan-Johor Bahru near Pantai 7, Tanjung Gemok, early Saturday morning.
The incident, which occurred at about 2.30am, claimed the lives of BMW X5 driver Khor Ho An, 18, and motorcycle rider Muhammad Darwish Fitri Ramli, 16. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Rompin District Police Chief Superintendent Sharif Bhai Sharif Mondoi said initial investigations found that both vehicles were travelling in the same direction before the BMW X5 collided with the rear of the Yamaha 135 LC motorcycle.
“Investigations found that the BMW X5 driven by Ho An was believed to have lost control, resulting in the crash.
“Both victims suffered serious injuries and were pronounced dead at the location,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
Sharif Bhai said preliminary findings suggested the accident occurred after the BMW X5 driver failed to control the vehicle.
He added that investigations also found both victims did not possess valid driving licences at the time of the incident.
The bodies were sent to the Forensic Unit of Rompin Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Police are also continuing investigations by recording statements from family members, identifying witnesses who may have seen the incident and sending the vehicles involved for inspection by Puspakom.
“Blood and urine samples from the BMW X5 driver were also taken for toxicology testing,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
