US President Donald Trump said Washington has the right to access Ukraine’s rare earth mineral resources under an agreement signed between the two countries, claiming the United States could obtain almost anything it wants from the deal.
Speaking in an interview with Real America’s Voice aired on Friday, Trump described Ukraine as a country with land that is highly valuable due to its rich mineral resources.
“We signed a rare earth agreement. We can go there anytime and take almost anything we want. It is quite a good deal,” he said.
The agreement, which was signed in Washington last year, followed months of difficult negotiations between the two countries, including a public dispute involving Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.
Under the agreement, Kyiv and Washington agreed to establish an investment fund that would be partly financed through revenue generated from Ukraine’s natural resource extraction sector.
Trump said the deal would benefit the United States while strengthening cooperation with Ukraine in managing its valuable mineral resources.
Rare earth elements are considered strategically important due to their use in advanced technologies, including electronics, renewable energy systems and defence equipment.
The agreement has drawn international attention as countries continue competing for access to critical minerals needed for future industries and technological development.
