Fire Razes 50 Per Cent Of Plastic Recycling Factory

Date:

A factory collecting plastic waste and industrial waste in the Mahkota Beranang area was damaged after a fire broke out early this morning.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Assistant Director Ashrul Riezal Ashbar said the department received an emergency call at 5.18am before the first team from the Semenyih Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene five minutes later.

He said the fire involved a plastic recycling factory, with around 50 per cent of the building destroyed in the incident.

No casualties were reported, while firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control at about 6.46am. Firefighting operations were still ongoing to completely extinguish the fire.

Ashrul said the presence of piled-up industrial waste and plastic materials caused the operation to take longer, as the burning waste released gases and made the extinguishing process more challenging.

The operation involved 30 firefighters from the Semenyih Fire and Rescue Station, with assistance from teams from the Bangi, Kajang and Nilai stations.

Authorities are continuing efforts to fully put out the fire while investigations into the cause of the incident are expected to be carried out after the operation is completed.
