Malaysian Couple Regret Taking RM40,000 Loan For Dream Wedding

Date:

A Malaysian couple have shared their regret after taking out a RM40,000 loan to fund their dream wedding, only to struggle financially just two months after the celebration.

According to mStar, the husband said the loan was not taken to buy a house or pay for long-term necessities, but solely to finance their wedding.

“I got married with RM40,000 in debt. It wasn’t a housing loan, it was debt from the wedding,” he said.

The couple reportedly spent heavily on lavish floral decorations, elaborate gift trays and a grand wedding dais designed to resemble a palace.

The event received praise from guests, while photos of the ceremony appeared glamorous on social media.

However, the reality after the wedding was far less glamorous.

The husband said that just two months later, the couple found themselves eating instant noodles because most of their monthly income was being used to repay the wedding loan.

He explained that they were not eating instant noodles because they could not cook, but because they had very little money left after making their loan repayments.

According to him, they had taken the loan simply to meet the expectations set by other people’s extravagant weddings.

The husband also recalled his wife’s regret during their financial hardship.

She reportedly told him that if they had known they would end up in such a difficult financial situation, they would have opted for a simple wedding and used the remaining money to travel together instead.

Reflecting on the experience, the husband admitted his wife was right.

“The wedding lasted only one day, but the debt will take years to repay,” he said.
