Two young children were reportedly left alone in a home with the bodies of their mother and her former boyfriend for about two days before authorities discovered the tragic scene in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania.
According to local police, Lamara Baldwin, 31, and her ex-boyfriend, Lamont Dunlap, 42, were found dead inside the residence on August 3. Investigators believe the pair had died around July 31, based on evidence at the scene.
The couple’s two children, aged one and three, were found alive inside the house. They have since been placed under the care of Child and Youth Services.
Police said there were no visible signs of trauma on either body. However, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting post-mortem examinations to determine the exact causes of death.
The incident has left neighbours shocked and searching for answers.
“I just don’t know what could have happened or what anyone could have done,” neighbour John Sloan told local media. “This is a mystery.”
In the days leading up to her death, Baldwin had reportedly spoken openly about her mental health struggles during a Facebook livestream.
“I’m just tired of being lied to. Never told the truth,” she said. “I don’t know how much more I can take.”
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths while awaiting the results of the autopsies.
