A former military personnel undergoing drug rehabilitation has been charged at the Sessions Court here today with physically sexually assaulting his friend’s child while sending the victim to school two years ago.
The accused, Roslan Ghazali, 54, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Sessions Court Judge Mohd Khairi Haron under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
According to the charge, Roslan allegedly committed the offence against the five-year-old victim while riding a motorcycle along Lorong Sepakat, Kluang, between 12.30pm and 1pm in 2024.
The offence under Section 14(a) carries a maximum prison sentence of up to 20 years and may also include whipping upon conviction.
Based on the case facts, the victim’s mother, who was a close friend of the accused’s wife, had initially asked Roslan’s wife to send the child to school on the day of the incident.
However, Roslan was later asked to take the child on a motorcycle ride. During the journey, he allegedly took advantage of the situation, while the victim kept the matter to herself and only revealed the incident to her mother about a year later.
Following a police report lodged by the victim’s mother, authorities arrested Roslan to assist with investigations. Checks also found that the accused had nine previous records related to drug offences and two criminal cases.
Roslan is currently undergoing drug treatment and rehabilitation at a National Anti-Drug Agency rehabilitation centre (PUSPEN) in Selangor.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Diyana Najihah Muhamed Fauzi appeared for the prosecution, while Roslan was unrepresented during the proceedings.
The prosecution informed the court that bail was not offered due to the seriousness of the alleged offence. The court allowed the request and fixed September 7 for the next mention of the case for document submission and the appointment of legal representation.
