Bersatu is preparing to lodge a report with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) over its status as a component party of Perikatan Nasional (PN), following PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s claim that the party had automatically ceased to be a member of the coalition.
Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said the move was necessary after he alleged that PAS had repeatedly acted against PN’s constitution and decisions made by the coalition’s Supreme Council.
He claimed these included actions that allegedly denied Bersatu’s rights as a component party, adding that the RoS should intervene to ensure such matters were addressed.
“All these actions need to be reported to the RoS so they can immediately be stopped,” he said, according to Utusan Malaysia.
Tun Faisal also alleged that Abdul Hadi effectively controlled PN, while coalition chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who is also a PAS vice-president, was merely a figurehead.
He argued that PN should not be managed in the same manner as PAS, stressing that decisions within the coalition must be made fairly and transparently while adhering to its constitution.
“PN isn’t like PAS. PN must be managed fairly, transparently and with integrity, according to the constitution,” he said.
Abdul Hadi had earlier claimed that Bersatu was no longer a PN component after the party indicated its intention to form a new political alliance. He based his argument on the PN constitution, which he said provided for the automatic termination of membership if a party chose to join or establish another coalition.
The PAS president was referring to a previous statement by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that the party planned to establish a new coalition with several political parties following the Negeri Sembilan state election.
However, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali rejected Abdul Hadi’s interpretation, maintaining that there was no provision in the PN constitution stating that a component party would automatically lose its membership under such circumstances.
The dispute adds another layer of tension within PN, with the interpretation of the coalition’s constitution now emerging as a key point of disagreement between its component parties.
