A former driver was sentenced to seven months in prison by two Magistrates’ Courts here on Tuesday after admitting to threatening his former employer, a High Court judge, and taking drugs.
Mohd Fareez Mohd Zin, 39, received separate sentences of three months for the criminal intimidation charge and four months for the drug offence after changing his plea to guilty during case mention proceedings before Magistrates Heng Yi Min and Amalina Johar.
The courts ordered the two sentences to be served consecutively, starting from the date of his arrest on May 12.
For the first charge, Mohd Fareez was accused of criminally threatening Civil High Court Judge Gan Techiong, 64, with the intention of causing fear or alarm to the victim.
The offence was allegedly committed at the Civil High Court in Jalan Duta at around 1.30pm on May 8.
He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of two years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, Mohd Fareez allegedly sent two threatening voice messages via WhatsApp and also called the judge’s secretary.
For the second charge, he was accused of self-administering amphetamine and methamphetamine at the Sentul District Police Headquarters Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division’s toilet at around 11.10pm on May 12.
The drug offence was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which provides for a maximum fine of RM5,000 or up to two years’ imprisonment, in addition to mandatory supervision of not less than two years upon conviction.
Mohd Fareez was represented by lawyer Shah Rizal Abdul Manan, while the prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutors Iman Nurhidayah Ezani and Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa.
