Tabung Haji Now Financially Stronger With RM98.58 Billion In Assets, Says Finance Ministry

Date:

Lembaga Tabung Haji’s (TH) financial position is now stable and increasingly stronger, with its assets exceeding liabilities alongside growth in depositors’ savings and distribution rates, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said.

The ministry said that as of Dec 31, 2025, TH had total assets of RM98.58 billion, exceeding its liabilities of RM95.63 billion.

Depositors’ savings also increased significantly, rising from RM75.4 billion in 2018 to RM93.4 billion in 2025.

“The distribution rate also increased from 1.25 per cent in 2018 to 3.50 per cent in 2025, amounting to RM3.22 billion,” the ministry said in a statement today.

MOF also stressed that depositors’ savings with TH remain secure, with all deposits guaranteed by the Government under Section 24 of the Tabung Haji Act 1995 (Act 535).

“The people’s haj savings are safe, and the institution entrusted with the haj aspirations of Malaysians will continue to be safeguarded for both the present and future generations,” it said.

However, the ministry stressed that losses suffered by TH due to financial and investment mismanagement before 2018 had not simply disappeared, with the Government bearing the cost of the rescue using public and taxpayers’ funds.

The ministry said the burden was also borne by 9.7 million depositors, who received a distribution rate as low as 1.25 per cent in 2018 and around three per cent during the recovery period.

“The cost of mismanagement was truly borne by everyone,” MOF said.

The ministry also maintained that the Government would neither interfere nor protect any individual in relation to the matter, adding that decisions on prosecution would rest entirely with the public prosecutor.

MOF said the Government was also committed to ensuring that a similar crisis would not happen again.

“In line with the RCI’s recommendations, amendments to the Tabung Haji Act 1995 (Act 535) will continue, including the introduction of Securities Commission Malaysia oversight over Tabung Haji’s investment activities,” it said.

Earlier, during the winding-up of today’s special parliamentary sitting, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said TH’s losses were estimated at nearly RM13 billion.

This comprised RM10.2 billion in losses borne by the Government through Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd (UJSB) in 2018, as well as RM2.6 billion in impairment losses borne by TH itself.
