An elderly man and his eight-year-old nephew died, while two others suffered breathing difficulties after a three-storey shoplot caught fire at Jalan Batu Unjur 9, Taman Bayu Perdana, Klang, this afternoon.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the two male victims, aged 66 and eight, were found in separate toilets on the second floor after firefighters completed the extinguishing operation at 6.33pm.
He said the department received an emergency call about the fire at around 5.51pm.
“Both victims were pronounced dead by Health Ministry medical personnel, while two other victims were rescued by members of the public before being taken to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR), Klang, for treatment,” he said in a statement.
Ashrul Riezal said the victims’ bodies were handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Forensic Unit at 10.15pm for further action.
The operation was fully concluded at 10.05pm, involving 18 firefighters from the Port Klang and Andalas Fire and Rescue Stations.
