A soldier was injured after he was allegedly shot by a fellow serviceman at the Sungai Menyala shooting range in Negeri Sembilan on Wednesday.
Negeri Sembilan deputy police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasharudin Mohd Shariff said police received a report regarding the incident at around 2.15pm.
“The incident reportedly occurred while the victim was at the location with several other personnel.
“Preliminary investigations found that the victim was believed to have been struck by a shot fired by a fellow member of his unit,” he said in a statement.
The victim suffered injuries to his face and was initially taken to Port Dickson Hospital for treatment before being referred to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Seremban for further examination and medical care.
He is reported to be in stable condition.
Following the incident, police arrested a man in his 20s who is also a member of the armed forces to assist with investigations.
Mohd Nasharudin said the case is being investigated under Section 37 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 337 of the Penal Code.
“Further investigations are underway to determine the actual cause of the incident,” he said.
He also urged the public not to speculate about the incident or spread unverified information that could potentially interfere with the investigation.
