Six Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Special Warfare Forces (Paskal) personnel were safely rescued after drifting away from their intended landing area during a free-fall training exercise in the South China Sea.
The RMN said its vessels located the personnel at sea after they were affected by a sudden change in weather conditions during the exercise.
According to the navy, the weather shift reduced visibility and caused the personnel to deviate from their planned landing position.
The incident highlights the importance of realistic and continuous training for elite military personnel, particularly when dealing with unpredictable conditions during operations at sea.
The RMN said Paskal’s intensive training goes beyond combat skills, helping personnel develop resilience, discipline and survival capabilities needed to respond effectively in extreme situations.
The successful recovery also demonstrated the importance of preparedness and coordination when unexpected circumstances arise during military exercises.
The navy reiterated its commitment to maintaining a balance between operational readiness and personnel safety, while continuing efforts to safeguard Malaysia’s waters.
