Man Found Dead 250 Metres From Spot He Allegedly Jumped Into River

Date:

A 28-year-old local man who allegedly jumped into a river in Kampung Raja, Besut, while attempting to evade a police inspection was found dead on Thursday.

Besut district police chief Superintendent Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahim said the victim’s body was recovered by the search and rescue (SAR) team at about 11.30am, around 250 metres from the last location where he was seen.

He said the incident occurred at about 5.45pm on Wednesday when police personnel were conducting checks related to a drug case in an area near Sungai Kampung Gong Maksom.

“The man is believed to have jumped into the river while trying to escape the police inspection before he could no longer be located,” he said in a statement today.

The victim’s identity has since been confirmed, while his body was taken to the Forensic Unit at Besut Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Mohd Rozaime said further checks at a wooden shed near the scene also led to the discovery of several pills suspected to be drugs.

The recovery brings an end to the search operation, which had been launched after the man disappeared following the alleged attempt to evade the police inspection.
