AMK Calls For BUDI95 Fuel Subsidy Limit To Be Restored To 300 Litres

Date:

Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) has proposed that the monthly subsidy ceiling under the BUDI MADANI 95 (BUDI95) programme be reviewed and restored to at least 300 litres.

AMK chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said the youth wing recognised the Madani Government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s finances while protecting Malaysians from rising living costs.

He said targeted subsidies were a reasonable approach because government resources should not provide identical benefits to people with significantly different financial capabilities.

However, Muhammad Kamil stressed that targeted subsidy policies must also ensure that those who genuinely depend on the assistance are not placed under further pressure as living costs increase.

He said the government had reduced the monthly BUDI95 eligibility limit from 300 litres to 200 litres beginning in April 2026 as a temporary measure, following higher global oil prices and rising subsidy expenditure.

“We understand the considerations behind the decision. However, a good policy must also be capable of adapting when circumstances change,” he said during his speech at the 2026 AMK National Congress at the Melaka International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITC) on Thursday.

Muhammad Kamil said the subsidy ceiling should be reconsidered if global oil price pressures ease, the country’s fiscal position continues to improve and government revenue provides greater room for additional assistance.

AMK is proposing that the BUDI95 subsidy ceiling be restored to at least 300 litres per month, with an additional allowance of up to 350 litres for groups with higher operational and mobility needs.

He said any additional allocation should remain subject to proper data verification and clearly defined eligibility criteria to ensure the subsidy reaches those who genuinely require it.

“We are not proposing unlimited subsidies. Neither are we asking the government to abandon fiscal discipline,” he said.

Instead, he said AMK wanted a more responsive mechanism that could adapt to changes in the economic situation and the financial pressures faced by ordinary Malaysians.

Muhammad Kamil said such an approach would allow the government to maintain fiscal responsibility while ensuring targeted assistance remained relevant to the needs of the people.
