Teen’s Body Found 51km From Where He Was Feared Drowned

Date:

The four-day search for 14-year-old Muhamad Rayyan Hakimie Mohd Yusmiza, who was feared drowned in Sungai Kelantan near Kampung Aur Duri, Kuala Krai, ended in tragedy after his body was found in Machang this afternoon.

Rayyan’s remains were discovered at Kampung Bandar Pulai Chondong at about 2.50pm, around 51 kilometres downstream from the location where he was believed to have drowned.

Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue Station chief Senior Fire Officer Nik Ahmad Afsham Nik Pa said the body was handed over to the police for further action following its discovery.

Rayyan’s mother, Norhasmiza Kamarudin, 39, said the family was grateful that the search had finally brought them an answer after days of uncertainty, although the outcome was not what they had hoped for.

“As a mother, I desperately hoped Rayyan would be found safe, but Allah SWT decided otherwise. Nevertheless, I am grateful that after four days, we finally have an answer and can bring my son home to be laid to rest properly,” she said.

She also expressed her appreciation to the rescue teams, security personnel and members of the local community who had worked tirelessly in the search since the incident.

Rayyan, the second of three siblings, was expected to be buried at the Kampung Aur Duri Muslim Cemetery later this afternoon.

The teenager was feared drowned at about 6.39pm on Tuesday after he and his friend, 14-year-old Muhammad Lut Na’iman Mohd Noor Aziron, went swimming in the river with three other friends.

Muhammad Lut Na’iman’s body was found earlier at about 9.10am the previous day by members of the Water Rescue Team (PPDA), approximately 50 metres from the spot where he was believed to have fallen into the river.

With Rayyan’s discovery, the search operation has brought a painful conclusion for his family after four days of uncertainty, while the authorities continue with the necessary procedures following the recovery of his remains.
