Police arrested two local men believed to be involved in the theft of electrical cables from a school in the Chenderong Balai area, Hilir Perak, at about 3.30am yesterday.
Hilir Perak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Chua Kok Lian said the case was reported after a local man representing the school lodged a police report at around 12.40pm the previous day.
According to him, the school discovered that electrical cables installed around one of its blocks had been cut and stolen, with losses estimated at RM50,000.
“Following investigations and intelligence gathering, officers from the Hilir Perak district police headquarters arrested two suspects at about 3.30am yesterday,” he said.
Police subsequently recovered several items believed to be connected to the case during questioning, including cable-cutting equipment, electrical cables and a vehicle.
Both suspects were brought before the Teluk Intan Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where they were remanded until Aug 17, 2026, to allow investigators to complete their probe.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum seven-year jail term, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Chua also urged schools, premises owners and members of the public to strengthen security measures around their properties and public facilities, particularly electrical cables and other valuable items that could attract thieves.
