A shocking murder-suicide unfolded yesterday (16th) in Shalu District, Taichung City, where a 17-year-old boy surnamed Luo fatally stabbed his girlfriend, a female college student surnamed Yan, 31 times after she attempted to break up with him. Reports indicate that Luo had previously been active in local temple performances and frequently posted on social media about life’s struggles, negative thoughts, and high-speed motorcycle stunts.
The tragic incident occurred at 9:46 a.m. near a water tower by a drainage area. The two had arranged to meet, and during the discussion, Luo lost control, producing a 40cm knife and repeatedly stabbing Yan. Despite her desperate pleas and repeated cries of “I’m sorry,” the assault continued. Yan ultimately collapsed from severe blood loss and was pronounced dead despite rescue efforts.
Initially, friends suggested that Luo acted out of jealousy, suspecting Yan of seeing someone else. However, posts on social media from someone claiming to be Yan’s acquaintance revealed that the conflict was primarily financial. Luo had repeatedly borrowed money from Yan, who earned it through part-time work, and her decision to end the relationship was partly due to exhaustion from his persistent demands. The meeting that day, intended to resolve the debt, tragically escalated into a fatal attack.
Following the incident, Luo’s Instagram account was scrutinized online, with many condemning comments. His uncle revealed that Luo often participated in local temple festivals, performing as part of traditional groups known as Bajiajiang. His social media posts, filled with melancholy reflections such as “If farewell is the end, what was the meaning of our meeting?” and “People must say goodbye to things they cannot hold,” hinted at inner struggles and loneliness.
Additionally, Luo’s account included several photos of high-speed motorcycle rides, highlighting a thrill-seeking side. With this tragic event, the teenage suspect now faces severe legal consequences for his actions.
