A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing at a hotel in Staines, Surrey, on Saturday evening.
Surrey Police said officers were called to Stanwell Hotel at about 6.30pm following a report of a stabbing.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, according to police, who have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The suspect, who is a Somali national, was arrested in connection with the case as investigations continue.
Police urged the public not to speculate about the incident while officers work to establish what happened.
The Stanwell Hotel was previously used to accommodate asylum seekers, with the facility being used for that purpose since 2022.
Meanwhile, plans have reportedly been submitted to return the 56-bed hotel to its previous role as accommodation for paying guests.
The proposal would also allow the property to provide respite accommodation for passengers using nearby Heathrow Airport.
If the plans are approved, the individuals and families currently staying at the hotel would be required to relocate.
The proposed redevelopment would involve a major refurbishment of the property, including an increase in capacity from 56 to 96 rooms.
Police have said further updates on the stabbing will be provided as the investigation progresses.
