PM Anwar Urges PKR To Put National Interest Above Political Anger

Date:

Prime Minister and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged party members to place the interests of the people and country above political disappointment when considering the party’s cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno.

Speaking at the PKR National Congress, Anwar said any decision involving the unity government partnership must be approached with maturity and political wisdom, rather than being driven by anger or frustration among party members.

His remarks came as some delegates expressed their dissatisfaction with Umno during the congress, including boos and jeers directed at the party.

Anwar stressed that PKR must remain rational when dealing with its political partners, arguing that national interests should take priority over partisan disagreements.

“Whatever the decision, it cannot be based on our disappointment or anger. It must always be driven by public and national interests,” he said during his winding-up speech.

He added that while some may believe BN and Umno were less concerned about the welfare of the people, PKR should continue to demonstrate a stronger commitment towards public interests.

Anwar also pointed to the formation of the unity government as an example of how political wisdom and a shared commitment to the country could bring parties together despite their differences.

“The unity government would not have been possible without wisdom, without the realisation and utmost love for the country,” he said.

At the same time, Anwar appeared to signal that PKR would not simply back down if pushed into a political confrontation, suggesting the party could “langgar” if necessary.

The remarks come amid growing debate within PKR over its future cooperation with BN and Umno, with party members facing the challenge of balancing political differences against the broader interests of the unity government.
