DAP Sarawak delegates have set five reform measures as a benchmark for the party’s continued participation in the Federal Government, warning that failure to deliver could force the party to reconsider its position.
Soo Tien Ren said among the demands was for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to relinquish the Finance Minister portfolio, alongside calls for equal allocations to all Members of Parliament, including those from opposition parties.
The other proposed reforms include the abolition of the Sedition Act 1948, the establishment of an Ombudsman Malaysia and the expansion of targeted diesel subsidies to all commercial vehicles, together with the restoration of the Budi95 quota to 300 litres.
“These are not impossible reforms to implement. Some are commitments that we have fought for and require only political will,” he said while debating a motion at the 2026 DAP National Congress at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on Sunday.
Tien Ren said the five reforms should serve as a scorecard for the party and the public to assess the Government’s performance over the coming year.
He added that DAP should be prepared to part ways with Anwar if the administration failed to make meaningful progress on the reform agenda.
“If we are unable to implement this reform agenda, perhaps it is time for us to have the courage to say goodbye to Anwar,” he said.
However, all 14 delegates who spoke during the special congress called for DAP to remain in the unity government until the end of the 16th Parliament term.
The special congress was convened to debate and decide whether DAP should remain in the Federal administration or withdraw from the governing bloc, with more than 4,200 delegates entrusted with determining the party’s position.
The motion was tabled by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke on behalf of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), making the gathering a key test of DAP’s continued role in the unity government.
