Bangladesh Vegetable Farmer’s Mercedes Seized In Langkawi Over Licence, Insurance Offences

Date:

The Kedah Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized a Mercedes-Benz belonging to a 38-year-old Bangladeshi man during an enforcement operation in Langkawi.

Kedah JPJ director Stien Van Lutam said the vehicle was seized during Ops Luxury conducted around Jalan Padang Matsirat yesterday.

The man, who works as a vegetable farmer, was reportedly using the luxury car since May 27, 2025.

“He was stopped while transporting vegetables to sell to a third party at a wet market in Padang Matsirat.

“During questioning, he claimed that the vehicle belonged to him but did not disclose the actual purchase price of the car,” Stien said in a statement today.

Checks found that the man did not possess a valid driving licence. The vehicle’s motor vehicle licence (LKM) had also expired, while its insurance coverage had lapsed on July 26.

Following the violations, the Mercedes-Benz was seized for further action under the relevant laws.

Stien reminded motorists that owning a luxury vehicle does not exempt anyone from complying with road regulations.

“Every driver and vehicle on the road is required to comply with the rules and regulations in force,” he said.
