Curtain Company Fined RM1,500 For Displaying Advertisement Without Licence

Date:

A curtain company was fined RM1,500 by the Magistrates’ Court here today after pleading guilty to displaying an advertisement at its premises without a valid licence.

Magistrate Maslinda Selamat imposed the fine after the company, represented by its director Fatin Syazwani Rahim Razali, 31, pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court also ordered the company to serve four months in jail if it failed to pay the fine. However, the company settled the fine immediately.

According to the charge, the company, which operates in Telok Panglima Garang, had displayed an advertisement without a licence issued by the Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL).

The offence allegedly took place at around 6.08pm on May 5 last year and was in breach of By-Law 7 of the Advertisements By-Laws (Kuala Langat District Council) 2007.

The company was charged under By-Law 37 of the MPKL 2007, which provides for a fine of up to RM2,000, imprisonment of up to one year, or both upon conviction.

During the proceedings, MPKL prosecuting officer Hasrizal Abd Rahim urged the court to impose a substantial fine, pointing out that the company still did not have a valid advertising licence from the council.

Fatin, who was unrepresented by a lawyer, appealed to the court for a lighter fine.
