The Kelantan Road Transport Department (RTD) has identified at least 50 school van operators statewide who are allegedly operating without valid permits.
Kelantan RTD director Mohd Misuari Abdullah said the department was closely monitoring the operators and several locations where they were believed to be operating before enforcement action is taken.
“We have identified at least 50 school van operators who are operating without permits.
“Some of the vans also fail to meet the required safety standards, which is among the issues we are looking into,” he said.
Misuari said enforcement officers were continuing to monitor the operators and would act when the appropriate time came.
“We are waiting for the right time to take action, including seizing the vans,” he said.
He added that the state RTD had also identified several locations where the unlicensed operators were believed to be picking up or transporting schoolchildren.
Misuari reminded all school van operators to comply with existing regulations and ensure their vehicles meet the required safety standards to protect students.
“We do not want any untoward incident to happen to schoolchildren while they are travelling in these vans,” he said.
