The body of an unidentified man was found floating in Tasek Merdeka along Jalan Bukit Pasir, Batu Pahat, yesterday evening.
Batu Pahat District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the body was discovered at around 6.15pm by a security guard who was conducting a patrol in the area.
He said the man was believed to have been dead for between two and three days before his body was found.
“The body will undergo a post-mortem at Hospital Sultanan Nora Ismail, Batu Pahat, at 9am today,” he said when contacted by Kosmo!.
Police are urging members of the public who have had family members reported missing within the past week to contact the nearest police station to assist with the investigation.
Shahrulanuar also cautioned the public against making or spreading unverified claims about the incident, saying such statements could cause unnecessary concern, affect sensitivities and potentially interfere with the ongoing investigation.
The discovery had earlier sparked attention on social media after posts about a body being found in Tasek Merdeka began circulating last night, prompting concern and speculation among members of the public.
