Man Remanded Seven Days Over Alleged Iron Rod Attack On Neighbour

Date:

An elderly man has been remanded for seven days after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his neighbour with an iron rod in Jalan Perak.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Nurhanisah S H Sahul Hamid at the Magistrates’ Court here on Monday to facilitate police investigations.

The 62-year-old suspect, who was handcuffed, was brought to the court in a police truck accompanied by police personnel.

The case came to light after an 80-year-old local man was reportedly seriously injured after being attacked with an iron rod outside his home at around 9.30am on Sunday.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said preliminary investigations found that the victim was in front of his house when the incident occurred.

The victim suffered serious injuries to his hands and legs and remains under treatment at Penang Hospital.

Following the incident, police arrested the suspect and seized an iron rod believed to have been used in the alleged assault from his home.

Abdul Rozak said the incident was believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the victim and the suspect.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a weapon.
