Motorsports Influencer Among Eight Remanded Over Viral Illegal Race Video

Date:

A motorsports influencer is among eight men remanded for four days over a viral video showing traffic being stopped on the Second Link Expressway to facilitate an alleged illegal motorcycle race.

The suspects, aged between 26 and 45, were brought before the Kulai Magistrates’ Court this morning, where Magistrate R. Salini granted the police remand application until Thursday.

The remand order was issued under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code as police investigate the case under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

A police truck carrying all eight suspects arrived at the court at around 8.30am. All of the men were seen wearing face masks, while two of them, including the influencer, wore hoodies.

Johor police chief Datuk Ab. Rahaman Arsad said all eight suspects were arrested by personnel from the Kulai Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 11.54am yesterday.

The arrests followed the circulation of a 33-second video showing two motorcyclists allegedly racing on the expressway at around 7am on Saturday.

The incident reportedly occurred between Km33 near the Senai Utara toll exit and Km31 near the Johor Premium Outlet exit, where several individuals were seen stopping traffic to allow the race to take place.

The footage also showed the group setting off firecrackers after the race, apparently to celebrate its conclusion. Several individuals, including the motorsports influencer, were later seen standing along the road shoulder.

The viral footage has drawn attention to the dangers posed by unauthorised racing on public roads, particularly when other motorists are deliberately stopped to create a clear stretch for the activity.

Police investigations are ongoing to establish the roles played by all eight suspects and the circumstances surrounding the alleged race.
