An elderly woman died after the Perodua Axia she was travelling in allegedly skidded and crashed into a tree along Jalan Cabang 4 Salam here today.
The accident occurred at around 11.16am, claiming the life of 73-year-old Che Rokiah Che Idris, who was trapped inside the vehicle following the collision.
Two other occupants, believed to be her grandchildren, Nor Maisarah Mazlan, 23, and Norqistina, 18, were injured in the crash.
Rantau Panjang Fire and Rescue Station chief Assistant Fire Superintendent Hamzah Musa said the department received an emergency call regarding the accident before dispatching a fire engine with six personnel to the scene.
“Upon arrival, Che Rokiah, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was found trapped inside the vehicle,” he said when contacted.
Firefighters subsequently extricated the elderly woman from the wreckage before handing her over to police at the scene.
Hamzah said the other two victims, believed to be siblings, were the driver and another passenger in the vehicle.
Both had already been removed from the car by members of the public before being handed over to Ministry of Health personnel for further medical attention.
The circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear, with the authorities expected to investigate how the vehicle lost control before colliding with the tree.
