A second victim has died while receiving treatment after a Perodua Axia carrying three family members allegedly skidded off the road and crashed into a tree along Jalan Pasir Mas-Rantau Panjang (Culvert Lima) here on Monday.

Nor Maisarah Mazlan, 23, who was seated in the front passenger seat, succumbed to her injuries while being treated at Pasir Mas Hospital.

Pasir Mas district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said the crash occurred at about 11.20am and involved three family members travelling from Pasir Mas towards Rantau Panjang.

He said the rear passenger, Che Rokiah Che Idris, 73, died at the scene due to the severity of her injuries.

“The driver, Norqistina, 18, suffered a fractured wrist and internal injuries. She remains at the hospital for further treatment,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Initial investigations found that the vehicle was believed to have lost control before veering off the road and crashing into a tree along the roadside.

The latest fatality brings the number of deaths from the crash to two, while the teenage driver remains hospitalised for further treatment.

Mazlan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, with investigations still ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
