Motorcycle Theft Gang ‘Geng Manap’ Busted, 15 Cases Solved In Ipoh

Date:

Police have dismantled a group known as “Geng Manap”, believed to be involved in a series of motorcycle thefts and house break-ins in the district.

Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah said six suspects, aged between 27 and 66, were arrested in several operations conducted by the Ipoh district police Criminal Investigation Division between August 11 and 18.

“Police seized 20 motorcycle frames and eight sacks containing various motorcycle components.

“Investigations linked the group to 14 motorcycle theft cases and one house break-in, bringing the total number of cases solved to 15,” he said in a statement last night.

Muhammad Najib said all 15 cases were brought before the court today, with several suspects sentenced to between 10 and 15 months in prison.

The remaining suspects were granted bail ranging from RM3,000 to RM5,000 pending further mention of their cases.

He said the suspects faced charges under Sections 411, 414, 457 and 379A of the Penal Code, as well as Section 29(1) of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

Muhammad Najib said the successful operation reflected the police’s continued commitment to combating motorcycle theft and resolving cases through information from the public and intelligence gathered in stages.

The arrests also highlight the importance of public cooperation in helping police identify suspected criminal groups and bring those responsible to justice.
